For The Love of God

For The Love of God

Recently I wrote a short simple article entitled, “It Pays to Love God.” It’s topic centered around the fact that God is working out all things; even the bad things in our life, for our good. That little article seemed to appeal to a lot of FOB readers, so I thought I would expand on its theme!

As I began to contemplate the Love of God; my first thoughts caused me to recall some all too common phrases that people now days use about Gods name.

First was that insidious phrase, “oh my God.” I find it to be disgusting. I wonder if the people that say OMG even know God, and especially his love.

Secondly, another disgusting phrase that people tend to spew out is the following phrase: “for the love of God.”

It is usually a reactionary statement that is intended to be an audible expression of anger and frustration with someone who has exhausted our patience.

Both of these phrases are vain, idle expressions that lend themselves to cheapening the holiness of God, and therefore are an absolute mockery of the love of God!

The Love of God is powerful, unmeasurable, amazing, sure, marvelous, perfect, reliable, pure, holy and altogether becoming of the most holy loving God.

Never should Gods name or his wondrous love be taken so lightly, and should never even be referenced in a diminishing form.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” we mortal human beings would die in our sins and have no hope for a future life.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” all human beings would be condemned to perish in a Devil’s Hell.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” his holy character and consuming nature of Love would be unrealized in any capacity among mankind.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” only the thoughts and acts of evil would forever prevail in our world and within all of our hearts!

But “for the Love of God,” we mere terrestrial sinners could never imagine the “Things” that the “God of Love” is preparing for those that Love Him.

I Corinthians 2:9 Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

As I study Gods word, his law, his nature and his plans for those that love him; I can’t help but try in my wildest imagination, ponder about what he is preparing for me.

It is not so difficult to imagine our typical worldly type mansions, resorts, parks, cars, exotic trips, and an endless list of pleasurable delights. But anything I conjure up in my mind; cannot begin to compare with the things an almighty Creator God could provide.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” such fantastic dreams of a perfect place, in a perfect body, with a perfect God of Love would be total fantasy!

No wonder, Gods word conveys that only a fool would conclude that there is no God! Only a fool would blindly reject his Love!

It is “For the Love of God,” that I take seriously his challenge to Love Him and his loving ways; and to serve him with all my heart and mind!

Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

But for “the Love of God,” my Soul would have no consolation and no experience of his great Love!

Therefore, “For The Love of God,” and for the hope of the world, I counsel one and all to consider the following advice:

II Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

It Pays to Love God

It Pays to Love God

(From Focus on the Bible)

There are many uplifting verses in the Bible. They always help to establish eternal optimism in the hearts of all believers; even in the midst of the worst of times.

But one such verse seems to stand out above all the rest.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Herein we are informed that ALL THINGS in the life of a Christian; even the bad things, shall be managed by God to our eventual betterment.

It truly does pay to Love God, and humbly serve him in whatever our capacity of purpose in life might be.

And when we Love God, we also find not only a purpose, but we also find fulfillment, joy, hope, comfort, guidance, contentment, companionship, and Love!

Just think about this: those people that do not love God, who mock him, who reject him, ignore him and curse him; can never know anything of the wonderful things that come from loving God!

And NO THINGS will work to their good in the hereafter!

Proverbs 8:35-36 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. 36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

So, while the world at large hates God and hates his Son, Jesus; and thereby hates us; take courage in the promise of Romans 8:28. “It pays big dividends in eternity when you love God and serve under his purpose!”

Yes; It really does pay to Love God!

Israel and The Fig Tree

Israel and the Fig Tree

Jesus “Fig Tree” analogy relative to Israel and the nearness of his 2nd Coming is ticking! We are now 72 years into this prophetic Last Days scenario.

Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender & puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

This parable was a way of relating to the disciples as to the reason that Jesus cursed a fig tree on his journey from Bethany into Jerusalem.

The “cursing” and the later “fig tree” parable is an object lesson to Israel; and also to Christians of the Last Days.

Matthew 21:18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

19. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

The “Fig Tree” that withered away was an object lesson portraying Israel’s curse for rejecting their Messiah.

As a result, Jerusalem and its Temple were destroyed while the Jewish people were uprooted from their land and scattered all around the world.

The parable of the “Fig Tree” in Jesus dissertation in Matthew 24 thus became a special sign in prophecy related to the miraculous regathering of the Jews to their ancient homeland; which in turn should alert the Christians of the Last Days to the prospect of the return of Jesus!

While we cannot know the year of Jesus return; we can; by observing the Fig Tree parable to be alerted sufficiently enough to anticipate his imminent coming.

Jesus will return to Israel, and save Israel from the allied forces under the Antichrist. That literal occasion is “set” on Gods clock, and will commence the age of the Millennial Kingdom!

Knowing these facts; we can also know that the mystery of the Rapture of the church precedes these landmarks in time by Seven Years!

When we review the fact that Israel (the fig tree) was replanted in the Promised Land in 1948; and has grown from a small, fragile nation (sapling) into a mature, strong (tree) nation; then we as Christians should be alert, and watching as we see that day; the day referred to in Hebrews 11:10 (day of the Lord) approaching!

Questions About The Antichrist

 Questions About The Antichrist

I am often asked by Bible enthusiasts who I think might be the Antichrist. Of course, theologians have long made numerous suggestions about the possible identity of the Antichrist.

Most of that speculation has always centered around the familiar verse that is recorded in Revelation chapter 13 relative to the Beast.

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Since this verse begins with an explicit challenge about “wisdom” and a deep understanding of scripture, it compels most Bible scholars to radically attempt to demonstrate their personal knowledge about this great mystery.

Sadly, for the sake of serious prophecy study, most all of the endeavors of these zealous prognosticators have only served to frustrate the purpose of Bible prophecy.

Satan, in his cosmic conspiracy to displace Jesus Christ, and exalt a candidate of his own choosing; has throughout much of history always had to cultivate a prospect to become the Antichrist.

Satan knows the prophetic word of God as well any Bible scholar; but he does not know precisely when or how God is going to bring the supernatural cosmic war to a climax.

The time that Satan will finally realize that he needs his Antichrist; is when he realizes that “his time is short.” (Revelation 12:12)

In the interim, as Satan observes many other landmark prophecies of God coming to pass: he uses his rebel forces to foster into place events among the nations to prepare the logistics for the emergence of the Antichrist!

Most notable of prophetic world events that Satan has noted; and reacted to; is the regathering of Israel into their ancient Promised Land.

Since 1948, (when Israel was returned) Satan has been working overtime to formulate amongst the nations of this world; his grand plot to exalt his Antichrist, present himself as God; and finally to destroy Israel.

In the meantime, Satan is relying on the Last Days Global ideology of mankind to unite logistically to establish “Ten Kings” to enforce a Global Empire. (Revelation 17 & Daniel 7)

These “Ten Kings” may emerge before the Rapture. The world stage is being manipulated right now for their rise to power.

Ultimately, these Ten Kings will give their combined power over to the one who shall become the Antichrist. (Revelation 17:12-13)

The False Prophet, which may be a combined force of two religious figures (2-horns on earth beast) shall promote the Antichrist as the almighty!

So, who is this Antichrist? Is he alive right now at the present time? Can we possibly identify him? What will the Antichrist be like? When will the Antichrist appear? What will the Antichrist do? What will happen to the Antichrist?

Answer: I do not know who will eventually be the Antichrist. I can speculate on a few candidates; but I do not know.

Answer: The future Antichrist is very likely alive right now and awaiting an opportunity to advance himself.

Answer: To be able to positively identify the Antichrist, one will need to be present on the earth after the Rapture.

Answer: Whomever the Antichrist turns out to be; as yet; even he does not know he will be the Antichrist.

Answer: The Antichrist cannot emerge or even be revealed, until the Rapture ocurrs!

Answer: The Antichrist will be a proud, vain, crafty, conniving, self absorbed and evil minded man that is a master of diplomacy and deception.

Answer: Satan himself will manifest himself within the person of the Antichrist, (after the rapture) demanding the world worship him!

Answer: The Antichrist will proclaim himself God, in a new temple in Jerusalem, an act known in the Bible as the Abomination of Desolation.

Answer: The Antichrist will use his massive armies to encircle Jerusalem in an attempt to destroy Israel; and deny Jesus Christ his rightful throne.

Answer: The brief empire of the Antichrist will be destroyed by Jesus Christ, upon the occasion of his literal 2nd coming to this world.

Answer: The Antichrist will be cast alive into the Lake of Fire. (Rev. 19:20)

For God So Loved

For God So Loved

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
All Christians seem to know this verse by heart. It is also a verse that is well recognized even by the non-Christian world. It is in fact the Gospel, in a nutshell!
But upon closer analysis, it really expresses the deepness of the love of God, and the extent to which He would go to simply prove how much he loves us!
Can you Remember when you were young and head over heels in love, perhaps even for the very first time?
I remember those days! My first Love was very deep and drove me to expend every waking moment thinking of ways to win my loves, love in return!
I’d tell her that; I love you “SO MUCH;” that “I’d climb the highest mountain, or swim the deepest ocean, or walk a million miles through a blinding snowstorm,” just to demonstrate to you how much I Love You.
Well, the love story in John 3:6 very simply equates something very similar about God’s love for you and me.
God is saying; “I love you “SO MUCH” that I am willing to demonstrate my love by taking an incredible action. The action that God took, was to “give his only son” to die to pay the purchase price of our sins to Save Us!
So the next time you read the love story recorded in John 3:16; stop on that line: “For God SO LOVED,” and think about how much he truly loves YOU, and the extent to which he has gone to prove it!
As the Bible says in I John 4:16; Truly, God is Love!
“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”
As it goes in any Love Story, there can be a tremendous and exquisite joy or an intense deep heartbreak involved.
It all depends upon love being received or rejected. I can remember the deep pain of being rejected myself. It hurts! Surely, we all have experienced the pain of our love being rejected.
So it is with God, when people reject his love! God agonizes deeply over those who reject his love.
The Love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong. It reaches to the highest star, and to the lowest Hell.
For God SO LOVED, He Gave All

Soul Food

Soul Food

God breathed the breath of life into the first man, Adam & he became a living soul.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Ever since Adam sinned, all mankind has been held under the natural penalty for sin; death!

That’s why death exists and that’s why we all must someday die. It’s the reason that death has had a 100% affect on every generation since Adam.

Another point of emphasis; You do not possess or have a soul; You are a Soul! The soul is the real YOU! Your body is just the container of the Soul!

Your body must give way to death. But your Soul can live forever!

For the record, “All souls belong to God.” (Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine;) Yes, all souls belong to God, for he is the Creator and the sustainer of all that exists.

But since our souls are under a sin-curse; yes, our very soul, that God created, and is so precious to him; stands at enmity with him, and is therefore condemned to perish.

Continuing to read the final proclamation concerning souls in Ezekiel, we find that the Soul that sinneth shall die!

Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: “the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

That is bad news, isn’t it? But thankfully, that’s not the end of our “Soul Food” story!

Fortunately for all of us poor souls, God is in the “Soul Saving” business!

Since God created all souls, and all souls belong to God, how does God save souls from Hell, you may ask?

Well, that is in essence the Gospel in a nutshell! The answer is plainly recorded in the following time honored verses;

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

So, right there is the plain truth of God’s Soul Saving business!

Born as we are into this world under sin, and therefore condemned to die; we can actually be released from condemnation by the application of the Soul-Saving power of the blood of Gods only begotten Son!

Jesus further stated something just as emphatic about our Soul.

Matthew 10:28 Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Satan can wreak havoc on your life and your body, but he cannot destroy your Soul. He can entice you into gambling with your soul and lead you into Hell.

It is an absolute fact that Only God can destroy a Soul. And it is also an absolute fact that only God can Save a Soul!

And God definitely wants to Save your soul. He is not willing to let any soul perish; but he will not force any soul to accept his salvation.

These verses and this “Gospel in a nutshell” story is simply Food for the Soul! I hope you find it to be soul stirring.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

11. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

That is why I love that old hymn; “It is well with my Soul.” My Soul has been redeemed. Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb! My Soul is assured of Eternal Life! Truly the Lord hath restored my Soul, and now my soul thirsteth for God!

How God Reveals Himself

How God Reveals Himself

by: Darrell G. Young (Focus on the Bible)

The Bible is a unique and special form of revelation, a highly detailed record pertaining to everything concerning mankind; and unparalleled in history because it is the literal word of God.

But before the Bible as we know it was available, God used many means to reveal Himself and His will to mankind. It is amazing to think that God did not use just one form, but many.

The Bible tells us that no one has ever seen God except the Lord Jesus Christ, who, at the appointed time came to earth and gave us a direct witness of God.

John 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Some 1400 years earlier, before Jesus was manifested as “God in the flesh,” in Exodus 33:20; God declared to Moses, “You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

Jesus was literally God in the flesh (John 1:1-14) so when people saw Him, they were in a sense, seeing God. So, in a veiled way, God can be “seen” and many people have “seen” God by seeing and hearing him through the lens and words of Jesus Christ!

Yet, at the same time, no one has ever seen God revealed in all His glory. In our fallen human condition, if God were to fully reveal Himself to us, we would be consumed and destroyed. Therefore, God veils Himself and appears only in a variety of forms in which we can “see” evidence of Him. However, this is different than seeing God with all His glory and holiness displayed.

So how can we know that there really is a God, if nobody has ever seen him? If God is real, then it stands to reason that he would have surely chosen some way to introduce himself, or reveal himself to mankind.

We know that God is real because He has revealed Himself to us in at least seven ways: in creation, in His Word, in His Son, Jesus Christ, via his Spirit, in his law, through his promises, and finally, in history and prophecy.

While there has not always been a Bible, there have always been means for man to receive and understand God’s revelation. There are two categories of revelation, general and special.

General revelation deals with that revelation from God universally to all mankind. The external aspect of general revelation are those things which God must be the cause or source of. Because these things exist, God must also exist in order to have put them into existence.

1. God Reveals Himself Through His Creation

The most basic proof of God's existence is simply by observing what He has made. "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities"his eternal power and divine nature"have been clearly observed.

The OT Bible (Psalms 19:1) clearly says that there is a God and that the heavens openly declare his handiwork. The NT further adds that God reveals enough about Himself and his righteousness in the world for people to know plenty about Him

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Whom else can create such wondrous things? Can any evolutionary theory really explain the complex and intricate details of the universe, not to mention the existence of mankind, and all the components for life itself?

Psalms 96:4-5 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

2. God Reveals Himself Through His Word

God has also revealed Himself to us through His Word, the Bible. Throughout Scripture, the existence of God is treated as a self-evident fact.

In an America court of law, one must swear on the Bible that he will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

Thats exactly what the Bible represents! It is the absolute Truth, as conveyed by God to holy men of God. Gods Word contains the truth about everything, from how the world was made, to how it became corrupt, to explaining the reason of death, and the way to eternal life.

I John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the “Word,” and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the “word” of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The “Word of God” reveals things that no one else could possibly have any knowledge of.

Psalms 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

3. God Reveals Himself Through His Son

The third way in which God revealed Himself is through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 14:6-11). "In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 2:1,9)

In the gospel of John, Jesus point blank confirms that he and his Father (God) are one and the same!

John 14:8-9  Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

4. God Reveals Himself Through His Law

The purpose of the Mosaic Law was to accomplish the following:

(1) Reveal the holy character of the eternal God to the nation of Israel and to counsel them about how to attain to the same holy character.

(2) Reveal the sinfulness of mankind and his absolute need of the seed of saving Grace effected only by the perfect Son of God.

Galations 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

The Levitical Law did its job well, pointing out the sinfulness of mankind and condemning us for it. The laws of God were designed to prick the conscience of sinful man in order to force him to recognize his sinful nature, and that man could not possibly merit Gods favor on his own power.

Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD issure, making wise the simple.

5. God Reveals Himself Via his Holy Spirit.

The Bible describes the Holy Spirit as a person who has been present with the Father and the Son since before time began. The Spirit is integral to all of the things that God is described as doing in the Bible.

The Spirit of God was present at and involved in the creation. The Holy Spirit moved the prophets of God with the words of God.

The Holy Spirit is the abiding presence of God that resides within each believer to aid and assist them in their daily lives, whether it be as a comforter, a teacher, or guide.

The world is a sinful place, and one of the Holy Spirit’s main tasks is to convict the world of its sin. No amount of preaching, pleading, or pointing of fingers will bring about the conviction of sin, unless the Holy Spirit is at work in the sinner’s heart.

It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict. And what is the most basic sin of which the world is guilty? Jesus specifies it as unbelief. The Holy Spirit is tasked with appealing to sinful man of God’s reality and to contend with his righteousness.

6. God Reveals Himself Through Prophecy

God has also revealed himself by declaring what he will do in the future: The prophet Isaiah records of God: “I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please” (Isaiah 46:9-10).

Only a being outside of earthly time could foretell of future things that would come to pass in our process of time.

Only God the Creator could possibly possess such knowledge! And only God would dare forecast something in the course of events in world history, for such detailed revelation would run the risk of exposure as a fraud.

Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

7. God Reveals Himself Through Fulfilled Promises

If the first six methods of how God reveals himself to mankind we’re not convincing enough to verify Gods existence, surely the fulfillment of promises made by God in his Word would be conclusive.

God promised Abraham a nation. He framed it.

God promised a Son to Abraham. He formed him.

God promised mankind a Savior. He sent his Son!

God promised to recover Israel. He has done so!

God promised to call Gentiles unto him. He is doing so!

God promised his people eternal life. He provided it!

God promised to return Jesus someday. He soon will!

When we consider all the promises God pledged unto Abraham, to the prophets, to the nation of Israel, and to those who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior; we have an abundance of Divine promises to review and research for assessing the reality of the existence of God; and the credibility of Gods Word.

Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

Rescue The Perishing

 Rescue The Perishing

There is an old gospel song entitled “Rescue the Perishing. You may remember singing it in church. But sadly, It isn’t sung anymore in our modern church worship styles, although it was once a popular revival standard. It was written by Fanny Crosby in 1869.

1-Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Refrain:
Rescue the Perishing, care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save!

Those are very precious words aren’t they, especially when you pause to consider that without Jesus, we are all doomed to Perish! Thankfully, Jesus came into this world to literally rescue the perishing!

What does it mean to Perish? The word perish means to endure tremendous ruin and utter destruction or death.

I was once shopping in the vegetable section of the grocery, when I observed a sign hanging over the lettuces and tomatoes. It said “Perishable Goods.”

I thought about that sign, and quickly realized that the items on display only had a minimal shelf life and had to be purchased by a certain time, before they would be thrown out as perished items.

Those thoughts about “Perishable goods and a shelf life” made me think about life for people here in this world. We all have a sort of “shelf life” in this world. Our lives are all too short relatively speaking and then like a vapor that fadeth away, we too expire.

Significantly more important than the fact that life in this world is temporary and brief, is the fact that we are born into this world as “Perishable Creatures.”

I hate the whole idea of having a Perishing nature. Nobody wants to Perish! Surely to goodness if there is a God of Love; he has provided a stopgap measure against his creatures having to Perish! The Good News is: He has!

The most noted scriptures in Gods Word offers everyone a promise of a Rescue from Perishing!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not PERISH, but have everlasting life.

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never PERISH, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

So when I hear that old glorious gospel song, “Rescue the Perishing,” I think about how much God loves me, and sent Jesus to not only rescue me from perishing; but also to grant me the hope of Eternal Life!

Yes: Jesus is Merciful, Jesus will Save!

Focus on the Coming King

FOCUS ON THE KING OF KINGS

While there is much anxiety and intense dispute today about who legally & rightfully should be the next President of the United States of America; there is one thing that I know for sure; “JESUS is the King;” and He is coming very soon to claim his rightful throne!

The existing powers in this world, no matter who they are or where they reside will all soon be subdued by him! So there is really nothing much to worry about!

Therefore, it seems to me that the greatest concern everyone should have uppermost in their mind; is simply to be prepared to meet the Coming King!

I Timothy 6:15 Until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:  Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Perilous Times Shall Come

Perilous Times Shall Come

I have often read the opening line of II Timothy chapter three and quickly glossed over the phrase about the “perilous times of the last days,” and automatically summated that the inference was simply and solely about the coming holocaust pertaining to modern warfare and the tragic events of the Great Tribulation.

While that conclusion is certainly accurate concerning the climax of the perilous times, it doesn’t take into account the fact that there shall be an intense and subtly contrived time of exponentially increasing danger before the Tribulation ever starts.

II Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

This startling statement from Timothy seems to glare out like a flashing neon sign warning us (Church) that there is a dire emergency situation just over the hill. Well my friends, take it from a fervent student of the times in which we live, we long ago passed over the hilltop where the warning sign flashes. We are already well within a full panoramic view of the climactic perilous situation, a perilous journey that is going to get worse and worse as we travel further along history’s pathway. This admonishment of Timothy to be keenly aware about “perilous times” stands as a stark warning to the Christian of the Last Days. It should beacon an alert to every spiritual soldier of Christ to be on special watch-guard as he observes the multitude of signs that begin to come to pass in the Last Days!

The Greek word for our translated English word perilous is chalepos. The term chalepos means to “reduce the strength of an intended target” in the specific relationship of making the one targeted more susceptible to a furious, fierce and dangerous onslaught. The phrase is intended to convey to the reader that the powers of darkness in the Last Days will intensify their conspiratorial strategy against Christ’s followers for the design of rendering them as an easy prey. This ominous stalking of the prey is also depicted in I Peter 5:8 where Satan is portrayed as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. While Satan has always lurked around as a ravening beast, it is apparent from the scriptural rendering of this verse that the supernatural enemies of God (Satan-demons) and the earthly enemies of Christ and his Church, will conspire together to extricate a covert supernatural assault in an attempt to undermine the very foundations of the “Christian strength” on the earth in the Last Days, before the final Satanic offensive against Israel that shall occur during the Great Tribulation. Timothy’s reference to these “perilous times in the Last Days” has a familiar parallel of refrain in eschatology dealing with the conspiratorial rise and climactic appearance of the Antichrist. I have no doubt that Paul and Timothy discussed the subject of the Last Days on numerous occasions, and that Paul shared with young Timothy a tremendous wealth of information about the perilous conditions that the Church and the world would face just before Jesus returned. Lets look once again closely at Paul’s overview of these perilous times.

II Thessalonians 2:1-3 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a “falling away first”,

The Perilous Times Have A Direct Relationship to the Falling Away!

It is my firm contention that the perilous times of the Last Days have a direct relationship with the Laodicean church age (Revelation 3:14-20) and the great Falling Away of the general church as a whole in the days just preceding the emergence of the Antichrist. We note in Paul’s exhortation that the “falling away” comes first, and only afterwards then may the man of sin be revealed in his time. Paul continues on to say that the “mystery of iniquity” was already working in the 1st century, but that it is checked by a withholder or restrainer, or by the multi-faceted work of the Holy Spirit working within and throughout the body of the Church. Paul is saying that the withholding capacity of the Holy Spirit would gradually be withdrawn in the Last Days (until being removed altogether via the rapture) leaving the world more and more subjected to times of peril.

And for the diminishing leagues of Christian strength in the Last Days, its is apparent that the Church of the last days will have to struggle mightily against forces of deception. Thus concerning the Last Days, and the perilous zone of danger that shall preclude the Tribulation, Timothy picks up from Paul’s inference about the Day of the Lord and its relationship to the Antichrist, by describing in great detail what the perilous times will be like. Timothy’s purpose was to teach the Christian to watch for the signs of the return of the Lord in the Last Days, and from that knowledge learn to anticipate a supernatural onslaught from Satan against the very foundations of the Church. In the Last Days Timothy says that the Church can expect to see the world society and the world culture exhibit the following characteristics:

II Timothy 3:2-8 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.) Men Shall be Lovers of Themselves and Lovers of Pleasure

The Greek terms philedonos and philautos (selfish, self serving) precisely describe the prevailing heart condition of mankind in the last days. They will be self-serving, egotistical, arrogant, pursuers of pleasure, rather than possessors of the trait to love thy neighbor as thyself. These attitudes personify today’s culture that is almost wholly engrossed in sports, entertainment, and Materialism. (today’s modern culture is dramatically opposite from the command to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and to be content with Godliness) Modern society is preoccupied with amassing wealth and pursuing pleasure. Thus the dramatic rise in gambling, lotteries, sports cults, rock star worship, and party mania.

Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, refers to the fact that men place their own wishes in the center of life. They worship the self instead of God. The final condemnation of these people is that they retain the outward form of religion but deny its power. That is to say, they go through all the correct movements and maintain all the external forms of religion; but they know nothing of Christianity and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Covetous (symptom of Materialism)

The primary connotation of covetousness (philaurguros) is that of being given over to (lusting after) a carnal love of or greed for material or personal possessions. To lust is to exhibit a craving based on one's carnal (fleshly or one's "sin nature") desires. Coveting can come in any form of impure desire for another person's property or personal worship of any goods, possessions or another person’s celebrity status, such as idol worship. Covetousness today is associated with forms of gambling, lotteries, investments and other activities of chance where the motives behind the participation in these activities are strictly selfish and centered on one's love for money, and our culture’s overwhelming preoccupation with materialism. (Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.) Coveting has become a humanistic hallmark of our modern materialistic society. Coveting in today’s culture is commonplace and is human avarice is constantly be fed by fifth avenue commercialism.

It is no accident that the first of Timothy’s perilous qualities will be a life that is centered in self. The adjective used is philautos, which means self-loving. Love of self is the basic sin, from which all others flow. The moment a man makes his own will the centre of life, divine and human relationships are destroyed, obedience to God and charity to men both become impossible. The essence of Christianity is not the enthronement but the obliteration of self. Men would become lovers of money (philarguros). We must remember that Timothy's work lay in Ephesus, perhaps the greatest commercial and economic market in the ancient world. Ephesus was a prosperous town, the epitome of 1st century materialistic civilization. Perilous times always come when men assess prosperity by the acquisition of material things. The Bible warns that a man may lose his soul far more easily in prosperity than during adversity; and he is on the way to losing his soul when he assesses that the value of life is measured by the number of things which he possesses. Materialism and selfism leads to a society laden with braggarts and arrogance. (huperephano meaning to show oneself above all others and become contemptible of those who disagree) These twin qualities of the braggart and the arrogant man inevitably result in love of insult (blasphemia), which always degrades from insulting man to insulting God who made man in his image.

1 Timothy 6:9-10 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Proud, Boasters, Heady and Highminded

Perhaps no other successive generations in history has demonstrated more arrogance and haughtiness than the “me generation” and the “x generation” of our times. Boasters are braggarts. High-minded means to be conceited and lifted up with self worth and pride.

Egoism, and the inability to apologize or to say, “I’m sorry” is rampant in a proud society. The only thing that matters to a proud and haughty generation is self-promotion, and at any cost. Our modern politicians exemplify this trait. Fault is always laid at some other doorstep. Today’s culture is impatient and reacts with rash judgements. (Jude 1:16

These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.)

Blasphemers

Railing accusations against God have never been so popular as they are today. Modern culture recoils at the very idea of God, his commandments, and his Holy Word. The wave of tolerance of any god except the one true omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God of scripture has become common. People hate the God of the Bible today more than at any time in history! Atheism abounds in most areas of the world today as never before in history. When mankind has reached the point where he views this world and possessions as the only value in life, he naturally begins the downward spiral of degradating his fellow man, and ultimately to blaspheming the Creator.

Without Natural Affection

Perhaps no other sign is as relevant to our modern culture that this one. Natural affection has to do with hard-heartedness. Jesus said that in the last days the love of many would wax cold, and that fact has never been more apparent than in the issue of Abortion. The natural love of a mother for her own baby in today’s modern culture is being destroyed. Also the natural love of men and women as designed by God is quickly being maligned by an infesting and exploding assault of demonic spirits in the area of sexuality. Sexual perversion of unimaginable deviance is considered normal today. Homosexuality, lesbianism, gay marriage, beastiality, pedophilia, pornography, group sex, orgies, swapping, you name it. Today it is considered normal and an alternative lifestyle that is quickly gaining legal acceptance, rather than being a crime against humanity.

Modern culture finds a society lacking human affection (astorgos). Storgeis the word used especially of family love, the love of child for parent and parent for child. If there is no human affection, the family cannot exist. In the perilous times of the last days men will be so enamored with self-love that even the closest natural ties will be mean nothing to them.

Disobedient, Unthankful and Unholy

The traditional Judeo-Christian family is under demonic attack in culture today like never before in history. As a result of divorce, alternative lifestyles, materialism, and social pressures, parenting is being redefined, and in many cases dissolved. Thanklessness (acharistos) abounds in today’s world, as heritage values and personal responsibility are disregarded in lieu of self-love. (Romans1:29-31 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:) The US national data handbook indicates that alcohol is present in about 70% of violent crimes in America, and in about 90% of family abuse crimes. Eight out of ten American teenagers have sex before marriage. About 40% of unwed teenage pregnancies in America end in abortion. Seven out of ten black children and 3.5 out of ten white American children in America live in homes without their natural father. Teenage and young-adult violence is a growing epidemic, as evidenced by school shootings and teenage gangs. National Youth Risk Behavior Surveys indicate that 25% of American school kids now carry a weapon to school.

Truce Breakers and False Accusers

Ever wonder why it is so hard to have peace in the Middle East, or anywhere else for that matter? Diplomats and politicians meet and expend great efforts to craft a formula for peace, and yet it never works, Why? Because men lie and disdain the truth, and they devise clever schemes to get whatever they want. Honor and Statesmanship no longer mean anything. Modern man’s concept of human conflict resolution does not consider that man’s heart and nature is evil. Adolph Hitler was once quoted as saying, “tell a lie often enough and soon it will accepted as fact”. Unfortunately, Hitler’s theory on lying has become the accepted norm in national and international politics. Yasser Arafat has incorporated the habitual lying technique to great success. But here in America we call the spirit of deception partisanship, or political correctness.

Incontinent

Incontinent means to be without any personal self-control or inhibition, especially in the areas of sexual behavior, and material ingratiation. Incontinence promotes lust and greed, and filthy lifestyles, as well as filthy health-styles. (lasciviousness, licentiousness, and wantonness-aselgeia) It is obvious that this symptom is prevalent and overriding in America today, especially in light of the multi-billion dollar pornography industry, and the sexual violence that engulfs our land. Over 60% of all web-sites on the Internet are pornographic web-sitesThe US Department of Justice estimates the child pornographic market to be a $2 to 3 billion dollar-a-year market, making it one of the world's largest cottage industries. The relationship of pornography to child sexual abuse is compelling. In a study of convicted child molesters, 77% of those who molested boys said they were regular users of hard-core pornography. And 87% of those who molested girls said they were regular users of hard-core pornography. Crime statistics show that all types of crimes, especially sex-related crimes, occur with more frequency in neighborhoods where sexually oriented businesses are located, yet the ACLU has managed to get the U.S. Supreme Court to rule unconstitutional any laws prohibiting the free exercise of any kind of pornography. (child porn, pedophilia, etc.)

Mankind has become ungovernable by being unable to control their desires (akrates). The Greek verb kratein means to control. A man can reach a stage when, so far from controlling it, he can become a slave to some habit or desire. That is the inevitable way to ruin, for no man can master anything unless he first masters himself. This is one of Satan’s cleverest ploys.

Fierce, Traitors

Mans inhumanity to man has always been exceeding, but in today’s technologically advanced world with the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and man’s own penchant for savagery, brutality, and deviousness, evil knows no bounds, especially in light of the fact that our world acknowledges no standard of absolute moral truths, and possesses a covetous thankless heart. Treachery and faithlessness abound. Friendship and legal contracts today have become meaningless in the mad dash to accumulate worldly success and fame.

Despisers of Those that are Good

A sure sign of a decadent, pagan, deviant or ungodly society is personified best in the fact that an anti-Christian culture will above all else despise those that are good and that stand for righteousness. (Luke 21:17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.) (John 15:18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.) Evidence

for the present age being a part of the prophesied perilous times in the Last Days is the fact that America has repudiated its Christian heritage by deploring prayer, Bible reading and the Ten Commandments, and any reference to God. Today’s liberal minded social engineers deride America’s Christian roots and through multi-faceted means (ACLU, TV, movies, etc) portray Christian precepts as outdated and intolerant. (1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his Holy Spirit.) (Luke 10:16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.)

Isaiah 5:20-23 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

Form of Godliness (Without Power)

A 2001 study by the Barna Research Group revealed that only 41 percent of adults in America’s 12 largest denominations could truly be classified as "born again Christians." This conclusion was not based on whether they believed that they were born again, but on their own statements of what makes one born again. Americans call themselves Christian today, but rarely attend church, and most do not even know what makes one a Christian, nor do they acknowledge or believe in the most fundamental doctrines of Christianity. Thus today’s modern Church is cold, lukewarm, and compromising, and completely and complicitly absorbed into religious fables and all manner of false gods. Congregations by and large want a church that is program-minded and function as a socio-cultural-religious center of community-inclusiveness. Thus most modern churches do not want to hear the “separated and divisive message” of the uncompromising Gospel. Scriptural doctrine has become harmful and disdainful to the ears many modern churchgoers.

(II Peter 2:1-2 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.) (Titus 1:16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.) (II Timothy 4:3-4

For the time will come (perilous times indeed) when they (churches) will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.)

Ever Learning (But Denying the Truth)

As prophesied by Daniel the prophet, the last days, and the perilous times that shall accompany them, shall be marked by a vast increase in worldly knowledge, but plagued by an overwhelming lack of spiritual wisdom. The discernment of the truth is an ability that has all but disappeared in our modern world because we have abandoned the idea of absolute truth, and repudiated God’s holy word, the source of truth and wisdom. Thus we are ever learning but never coming to an understanding of the truth. (Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.) Modern man places a higher priority on science and philosophy than he places on the word of God. Thus we find ourselves following such theories as evolution, and denying the existence of a Creator God and his law.

Ephesians 4:17-19 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness

Colossians 3:5-6 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

Mark 7:21-23 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, (marital and family assaults) fornications, (sexual deviancy) murders, (wars) thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, (lying) lasciviousness, (wantonness-indulgent, malicious, viceful) an evil eye, (terror) blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Perilous times in the last days? Might we be there? Do you see the danger zone? Having reviewed Timothy’s list of the dangerous traits and pitfall areas that will be prevalent in the world in the last days, what do you now think? Does it sound familiar? Can you identify these symptoms in our world today? The prominence of all these disturbing cultural problems today is even more pronounced when we review all the statistics and charts compiled by National and Federal Commissions studying crime, pornography, child abuse, drug abuse, rape, teenage pregnancy, teen-suicide, domestic violence, and family trends. They reveal that the year 1963 became a turning point in an exponentially accelerating slide towards total cultural depravity. The bottom line is this, things are not getting better, they are getting worse and worse. And that brings me to another point in why things are getting progressively worse. Timothy referred to the spiritual deception and supernatural exploits of Jannes and Jambres in mimicking the miracles of God through Moses. Satan can also perform wonders, or illusions of miracles.

He can empower his earthly and heavenly agents with some astounding powers. But the magic of darkness is always intended to deceive and to lead people away from the truth.

II Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

The most devious characteristic about the “perilous times of these Last Days” is the spiritual and religious deception that will pervade the world. Doctrinal deception, lying spirits, great wonders, and miracle movements in the last days will be the calling card of the spirit of Satan’s Antichrist and the False Prophet. When churches have fallen away to such an extent that preachers teach and congregations condone doctrines that ordain homosexuality, and cast Jesus as a casual sinner, then perilous times are indeed here!

Today’s “churchianity” not only denies the doctrinal truths of the Bible, but incorporates some of the most blasphemous ideals in the world into the very makeup of the church. Churchianity is a gospel that makes mankind feel good about the self and to enjoy emotional experiences but never manifests any convicting power, or inspires any defense of the doctrinal truth. No wonder Timothy went on to expound upon the need for true Christians to defend the Gospel, and to rebuke false teaching, and to reprove false messengers in chapter four. II Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers (goao) shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

Evil Men and Spiritual Seducers Set Snares for the Righteous

Timothy continues here to comment that the perilous times of the last days would see evil men getting worse and worse, rather than better. While it is certainly true that many of these perilous traits have existed throughout most of the (church age) 20 centuries since Timothy expounded upon them, there has also undeniably been an exponential spiraling increase in the intensity and prevalence of these symptoms of moral and religious decadence since the simultaneous rebirth of Israel, and the benign inception of the great falling away. (last 50 years) Unquestionably today’s phenomenon of modern terrorism is in view in this text, and portends that the evil terrorists of our time are assisting and abetting with the spirit of Antichrist in today’s perilous times that will accelerate the world headlong into the Great Tribulation. But closely paralleling the increased evil tendency of mankind in the last days is the vector of seducement by false prophets and false teachers. (wolves in sheep’s clothing) Seducers are simply spiritual imposters, or workers of spiritual wizardry! They compel upon the religious to engage in repetitive chants when singing or preaching and to make them become more pliable to succumbing to false doctrines, by leavening the truth with gradually increasing poisonous laces of scriptural perversion. Satan utilizes the unrighteous to prepare snares to entangle the righteous. You may ask; would God allow the wicked to overcome the righteous? The Lord is just and must judge the righteous as well as the wicked, and often when the righteous go astray and do not heed the call of repentance, they require God’s righteous judgment. (Psalms 7:11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.) And now more than ever before, in these perilous last days, Satan is seeking to weaken the resistance of the righteous in order to foment his conspiracy of the end times.

Psalms 11:2-3 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heartIf the foundations be destroyed,--- what can the righteous do?

The end times conspiracy of the Antichrist involves a subtle scheme to target the true bride of Christ. The Psalmist pinpoints the fact that the wicked are privily (secretly) used by the powers of darkness to lay snares for righteous people and for righteous nations, to choke off the restraining power of the Holy Spirit. Paul alluded to this conspiracy of the evil one becoming a prevailing influence in the Last Days. Jesus also taught that the Last Days would be so perilous, that he even wondered aloud if he would find any faith on the earth when he returned. (Luke 18:8) The true church of the Last Days can expect to find itself seemingly to be up against insurmountable odds, but the Lord has promised that he would rescue his church at the midnight hour! Therefore, Jesus left as last command to watch, and be on the alert for the perils of end time Satanic assaults. If the church can be so deceived, what possible hope can any civil government have against the onslaught of such sinister forces of spiritual darkness?

Our American Republic for example, was a nation that was founded, not by human religionists, self-serving humanists, or even atheists, but by Bible believing Christians. They believed that the American republic should be based on the proposition that only God can grant life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and not the government and human rationale. With the now four decades long decline in the fundamental doctrines of Christianity one must retrace the erosion of America's foundations. Why have we found ourselves engulfed in perilous times? We have challenged God's existence (creator vs. evolution) in the 1920's Scopes Monkey trial, then questioned our founding father's intelligence in 1947 by reinterpreting the Separation of Church and State to be exactly opposite from their intent. Then in 1963, we began to practice political correctness by eradicating God, the Bible and prayer out of schools, courthouses, and public venues. The great enemy of the salvation of man, in my opinion, never invented a more effectual means of extirpating Christianity from the world than by persuading mankind that it was improper to read the Bible at schools. One must ponder the attacks on our American foundation and the re-Constitutional construction in recent decades. How do they explain the fact that the Bible and the 10 Commandments came to be in such a prominent place in our government and schools in the first place! Our Founding Fathers held them in high esteem and incorporated them into our national fabric! But alas, America's churches and pastors and Christian leadership have sat on their big fat duffs for decades without defending our Christian Republic. Where was the outcry from Christian leaders in 1947, in 1963? As the verse above from Psalms eleven indicates, the unrighteous forces prepared a slick offensive against Christianity in America that they might shoot the upright in the heart. Now, with yet another slap at God's Commandments, where is the righteous power to do anything about it? It is gone, because it is probably too late as we have allowed the enemies of Christ too much of a foothold in our country. The evil forces are now in control! Perilous times are upon us! What can the righteous do if the foundations be destroyedAbsolutely nothing! We Christians have blown our national heritage by allowing the foundations of our republic to be destroyed by the enemy.

History verifies that civilizations tend to fall apart in three stages: As a nation turns away from God and loses contact with Him, God releases that culture (removes his hedge of protection) from his influence and allows it to be more and more exposed to the forces of evil, and to pursue its prodigal way.

Stage One often involves a sexual revolution beginning with increasing heterosexual immorality: premarital sex, and adultery. In the U.S. this phase started about a decade after World War II. (1950’s) These outward expressions of heterosexual sins which are latent in the heart reflected a breakdown in the integrity of family life.

Stage Two in a collapsing society is the appearance and acceptance of homosexual immorality. This is of course one step further removed from God's intended purpose for marriage and sexual expression.

Stage Three is the appearance of violence in society, terrorism and terrible crimes: child abuse, kidnapping and the murder of innocents, bizarre evils which defy rational explanation. During this last stage good is often called evil and evil is named as good. The moral order becomes been turned upside down. The only sure solution is a widespread return to God at all levels of society, and unfortunately for America, I see no revival and therefore no escape from the perilous times of the Last Days. The stage is being set for Antichrist and the Tribulation era.

II Timothy 2:26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Before Timothy embarked into his narrative concerning the perilous times of the Last Days, he admonished the servants of Jesus to be on guard to recover themselves from any snares of the Devil. Satan, the clever conspirator is seeking in these final days to get an advantage over Christians and the church. (II Corinthians 2:11) The “Perilous Times that Timothy spoke of are here. They have crept up on us unaware. Nevertheless we as the faithful stalwart followers of Jesus Christ have no need of fear or intimidation. In these logistical perilous times before the final conflict over Israel, Jesus is our rock, our strength, and our Blessed Hope. Is it any wonder God’s Holy word ends with these comforting words.

Revelation 22:20-21

Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
