For The Love of God

For The Love of God

Recently I wrote a short simple article entitled, “It Pays to Love God.” It’s topic centered around the fact that God is working out all things; even the bad things in our life, for our good. That little article seemed to appeal to a lot of FOB readers, so I thought I would expand on its theme!

As I began to contemplate the Love of God; my first thoughts caused me to recall some all too common phrases that people now days use about Gods name.

First was that insidious phrase, “oh my God.” I find it to be disgusting. I wonder if the people that say OMG even know God, and especially his love.

Secondly, another disgusting phrase that people tend to spew out is the following phrase: “for the love of God.”

It is usually a reactionary statement that is intended to be an audible expression of anger and frustration with someone who has exhausted our patience.

Both of these phrases are vain, idle expressions that lend themselves to cheapening the holiness of God, and therefore are an absolute mockery of the love of God!

The Love of God is powerful, unmeasurable, amazing, sure, marvelous, perfect, reliable, pure, holy and altogether becoming of the most holy loving God.

Never should Gods name or his wondrous love be taken so lightly, and should never even be referenced in a diminishing form.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” we mortal human beings would die in our sins and have no hope for a future life.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” all human beings would be condemned to perish in a Devil’s Hell.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” his holy character and consuming nature of Love would be unrealized in any capacity among mankind.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” only the thoughts and acts of evil would forever prevail in our world and within all of our hearts!

But “for the Love of God,” we mere terrestrial sinners could never imagine the “Things” that the “God of Love” is preparing for those that Love Him.

I Corinthians 2:9 Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

As I study Gods word, his law, his nature and his plans for those that love him; I can’t help but try in my wildest imagination, ponder about what he is preparing for me.

It is not so difficult to imagine our typical worldly type mansions, resorts, parks, cars, exotic trips, and an endless list of pleasurable delights. But anything I conjure up in my mind; cannot begin to compare with the things an almighty Creator God could provide.

Were it not “for the Love of God,” such fantastic dreams of a perfect place, in a perfect body, with a perfect God of Love would be total fantasy!

No wonder, Gods word conveys that only a fool would conclude that there is no God! Only a fool would blindly reject his Love!

It is “For the Love of God,” that I take seriously his challenge to Love Him and his loving ways; and to serve him with all my heart and mind!

Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

But for “the Love of God,” my Soul would have no consolation and no experience of his great Love!

Therefore, “For The Love of God,” and for the hope of the world, I counsel one and all to consider the following advice:

II Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

It Pays to Love God

It Pays to Love God

(From Focus on the Bible)

There are many uplifting verses in the Bible. They always help to establish eternal optimism in the hearts of all believers; even in the midst of the worst of times.

But one such verse seems to stand out above all the rest.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Herein we are informed that ALL THINGS in the life of a Christian; even the bad things, shall be managed by God to our eventual betterment.

It truly does pay to Love God, and humbly serve him in whatever our capacity of purpose in life might be.

And when we Love God, we also find not only a purpose, but we also find fulfillment, joy, hope, comfort, guidance, contentment, companionship, and Love!

Just think about this: those people that do not love God, who mock him, who reject him, ignore him and curse him; can never know anything of the wonderful things that come from loving God!

And NO THINGS will work to their good in the hereafter!

Proverbs 8:35-36 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. 36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

So, while the world at large hates God and hates his Son, Jesus; and thereby hates us; take courage in the promise of Romans 8:28. “It pays big dividends in eternity when you love God and serve under his purpose!”

Yes; It really does pay to Love God!

Israel and The Fig Tree

Israel and the Fig Tree

Jesus “Fig Tree” analogy relative to Israel and the nearness of his 2nd Coming is ticking! We are now 72 years into this prophetic Last Days scenario.

Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender & puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

33. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

This parable was a way of relating to the disciples as to the reason that Jesus cursed a fig tree on his journey from Bethany into Jerusalem.

The “cursing” and the later “fig tree” parable is an object lesson to Israel; and also to Christians of the Last Days.

Matthew 21:18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

19. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

The “Fig Tree” that withered away was an object lesson portraying Israel’s curse for rejecting their Messiah.

As a result, Jerusalem and its Temple were destroyed while the Jewish people were uprooted from their land and scattered all around the world.

The parable of the “Fig Tree” in Jesus dissertation in Matthew 24 thus became a special sign in prophecy related to the miraculous regathering of the Jews to their ancient homeland; which in turn should alert the Christians of the Last Days to the prospect of the return of Jesus!

While we cannot know the year of Jesus return; we can; by observing the Fig Tree parable to be alerted sufficiently enough to anticipate his imminent coming.

Jesus will return to Israel, and save Israel from the allied forces under the Antichrist. That literal occasion is “set” on Gods clock, and will commence the age of the Millennial Kingdom!

Knowing these facts; we can also know that the mystery of the Rapture of the church precedes these landmarks in time by Seven Years!

When we review the fact that Israel (the fig tree) was replanted in the Promised Land in 1948; and has grown from a small, fragile nation (sapling) into a mature, strong (tree) nation; then we as Christians should be alert, and watching as we see that day; the day referred to in Hebrews 11:10 (day of the Lord) approaching!

Questions About The Antichrist

 Questions About The Antichrist

I am often asked by Bible enthusiasts who I think might be the Antichrist. Of course, theologians have long made numerous suggestions about the possible identity of the Antichrist.

Most of that speculation has always centered around the familiar verse that is recorded in Revelation chapter 13 relative to the Beast.

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Since this verse begins with an explicit challenge about “wisdom” and a deep understanding of scripture, it compels most Bible scholars to radically attempt to demonstrate their personal knowledge about this great mystery.

Sadly, for the sake of serious prophecy study, most all of the endeavors of these zealous prognosticators have only served to frustrate the purpose of Bible prophecy.

Satan, in his cosmic conspiracy to displace Jesus Christ, and exalt a candidate of his own choosing; has throughout much of history always had to cultivate a prospect to become the Antichrist.

Satan knows the prophetic word of God as well any Bible scholar; but he does not know precisely when or how God is going to bring the supernatural cosmic war to a climax.

The time that Satan will finally realize that he needs his Antichrist; is when he realizes that “his time is short.” (Revelation 12:12)

In the interim, as Satan observes many other landmark prophecies of God coming to pass: he uses his rebel forces to foster into place events among the nations to prepare the logistics for the emergence of the Antichrist!

Most notable of prophetic world events that Satan has noted; and reacted to; is the regathering of Israel into their ancient Promised Land.

Since 1948, (when Israel was returned) Satan has been working overtime to formulate amongst the nations of this world; his grand plot to exalt his Antichrist, present himself as God; and finally to destroy Israel.

In the meantime, Satan is relying on the Last Days Global ideology of mankind to unite logistically to establish “Ten Kings” to enforce a Global Empire. (Revelation 17 & Daniel 7)

These “Ten Kings” may emerge before the Rapture. The world stage is being manipulated right now for their rise to power.

Ultimately, these Ten Kings will give their combined power over to the one who shall become the Antichrist. (Revelation 17:12-13)

The False Prophet, which may be a combined force of two religious figures (2-horns on earth beast) shall promote the Antichrist as the almighty!

So, who is this Antichrist? Is he alive right now at the present time? Can we possibly identify him? What will the Antichrist be like? When will the Antichrist appear? What will the Antichrist do? What will happen to the Antichrist?

Answer: I do not know who will eventually be the Antichrist. I can speculate on a few candidates; but I do not know.

Answer: The future Antichrist is very likely alive right now and awaiting an opportunity to advance himself.

Answer: To be able to positively identify the Antichrist, one will need to be present on the earth after the Rapture.

Answer: Whomever the Antichrist turns out to be; as yet; even he does not know he will be the Antichrist.

Answer: The Antichrist cannot emerge or even be revealed, until the Rapture ocurrs!

Answer: The Antichrist will be a proud, vain, crafty, conniving, self absorbed and evil minded man that is a master of diplomacy and deception.

Answer: Satan himself will manifest himself within the person of the Antichrist, (after the rapture) demanding the world worship him!

Answer: The Antichrist will proclaim himself God, in a new temple in Jerusalem, an act known in the Bible as the Abomination of Desolation.

Answer: The Antichrist will use his massive armies to encircle Jerusalem in an attempt to destroy Israel; and deny Jesus Christ his rightful throne.

Answer: The brief empire of the Antichrist will be destroyed by Jesus Christ, upon the occasion of his literal 2nd coming to this world.

Answer: The Antichrist will be cast alive into the Lake of Fire. (Rev. 19:20)

For God So Loved

For God So Loved

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
All Christians seem to know this verse by heart. It is also a verse that is well recognized even by the non-Christian world. It is in fact the Gospel, in a nutshell!
But upon closer analysis, it really expresses the deepness of the love of God, and the extent to which He would go to simply prove how much he loves us!
Can you Remember when you were young and head over heels in love, perhaps even for the very first time?
I remember those days! My first Love was very deep and drove me to expend every waking moment thinking of ways to win my loves, love in return!
I’d tell her that; I love you “SO MUCH;” that “I’d climb the highest mountain, or swim the deepest ocean, or walk a million miles through a blinding snowstorm,” just to demonstrate to you how much I Love You.
Well, the love story in John 3:6 very simply equates something very similar about God’s love for you and me.
God is saying; “I love you “SO MUCH” that I am willing to demonstrate my love by taking an incredible action. The action that God took, was to “give his only son” to die to pay the purchase price of our sins to Save Us!
So the next time you read the love story recorded in John 3:16; stop on that line: “For God SO LOVED,” and think about how much he truly loves YOU, and the extent to which he has gone to prove it!
As the Bible says in I John 4:16; Truly, God is Love!
“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.”
As it goes in any Love Story, there can be a tremendous and exquisite joy or an intense deep heartbreak involved.
It all depends upon love being received or rejected. I can remember the deep pain of being rejected myself. It hurts! Surely, we all have experienced the pain of our love being rejected.
So it is with God, when people reject his love! God agonizes deeply over those who reject his love.
The Love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong. It reaches to the highest star, and to the lowest Hell.
For God SO LOVED, He Gave All

Soul Food

Soul Food

God breathed the breath of life into the first man, Adam & he became a living soul.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Ever since Adam sinned, all mankind has been held under the natural penalty for sin; death!

That’s why death exists and that’s why we all must someday die. It’s the reason that death has had a 100% affect on every generation since Adam.

Another point of emphasis; You do not possess or have a soul; You are a Soul! The soul is the real YOU! Your body is just the container of the Soul!

Your body must give way to death. But your Soul can live forever!

For the record, “All souls belong to God.” (Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine;) Yes, all souls belong to God, for he is the Creator and the sustainer of all that exists.

But since our souls are under a sin-curse; yes, our very soul, that God created, and is so precious to him; stands at enmity with him, and is therefore condemned to perish.

Continuing to read the final proclamation concerning souls in Ezekiel, we find that the Soul that sinneth shall die!

Ezekiel 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: “the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

That is bad news, isn’t it? But thankfully, that’s not the end of our “Soul Food” story!

Fortunately for all of us poor souls, God is in the “Soul Saving” business!

Since God created all souls, and all souls belong to God, how does God save souls from Hell, you may ask?

Well, that is in essence the Gospel in a nutshell! The answer is plainly recorded in the following time honored verses;

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

So, right there is the plain truth of God’s Soul Saving business!

Born as we are into this world under sin, and therefore condemned to die; we can actually be released from condemnation by the application of the Soul-Saving power of the blood of Gods only begotten Son!

Jesus further stated something just as emphatic about our Soul.

Matthew 10:28 Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Satan can wreak havoc on your life and your body, but he cannot destroy your Soul. He can entice you into gambling with your soul and lead you into Hell.

It is an absolute fact that Only God can destroy a Soul. And it is also an absolute fact that only God can Save a Soul!

And God definitely wants to Save your soul. He is not willing to let any soul perish; but he will not force any soul to accept his salvation.

These verses and this “Gospel in a nutshell” story is simply Food for the Soul! I hope you find it to be soul stirring.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

11. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

That is why I love that old hymn; “It is well with my Soul.” My Soul has been redeemed. Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb! My Soul is assured of Eternal Life! Truly the Lord hath restored my Soul, and now my soul thirsteth for God!

How God Reveals Himself

How God Reveals Himself

by: Darrell G. Young (Focus on the Bible)

The Bible is a unique and special form of revelation, a highly detailed record pertaining to everything concerning mankind; and unparalleled in history because it is the literal word of God.

But before the Bible as we know it was available, God used many means to reveal Himself and His will to mankind. It is amazing to think that God did not use just one form, but many.

The Bible tells us that no one has ever seen God except the Lord Jesus Christ, who, at the appointed time came to earth and gave us a direct witness of God.

John 1:18  No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Some 1400 years earlier, before Jesus was manifested as “God in the flesh,” in Exodus 33:20; God declared to Moses, “You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.”

Jesus was literally God in the flesh (John 1:1-14) so when people saw Him, they were in a sense, seeing God. So, in a veiled way, God can be “seen” and many people have “seen” God by seeing and hearing him through the lens and words of Jesus Christ!

Yet, at the same time, no one has ever seen God revealed in all His glory. In our fallen human condition, if God were to fully reveal Himself to us, we would be consumed and destroyed. Therefore, God veils Himself and appears only in a variety of forms in which we can “see” evidence of Him. However, this is different than seeing God with all His glory and holiness displayed.

So how can we know that there really is a God, if nobody has ever seen him? If God is real, then it stands to reason that he would have surely chosen some way to introduce himself, or reveal himself to mankind.

We know that God is real because He has revealed Himself to us in at least seven ways: in creation, in His Word, in His Son, Jesus Christ, via his Spirit, in his law, through his promises, and finally, in history and prophecy.

While there has not always been a Bible, there have always been means for man to receive and understand God’s revelation. There are two categories of revelation, general and special.

General revelation deals with that revelation from God universally to all mankind. The external aspect of general revelation are those things which God must be the cause or source of. Because these things exist, God must also exist in order to have put them into existence.

1. God Reveals Himself Through His Creation

The most basic proof of God's existence is simply by observing what He has made. "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities"his eternal power and divine nature"have been clearly observed.

The OT Bible (Psalms 19:1) clearly says that there is a God and that the heavens openly declare his handiwork. The NT further adds that God reveals enough about Himself and his righteousness in the world for people to know plenty about Him

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Whom else can create such wondrous things? Can any evolutionary theory really explain the complex and intricate details of the universe, not to mention the existence of mankind, and all the components for life itself?

Psalms 96:4-5 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

2. God Reveals Himself Through His Word

God has also revealed Himself to us through His Word, the Bible. Throughout Scripture, the existence of God is treated as a self-evident fact.

In an America court of law, one must swear on the Bible that he will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

Thats exactly what the Bible represents! It is the absolute Truth, as conveyed by God to holy men of God. Gods Word contains the truth about everything, from how the world was made, to how it became corrupt, to explaining the reason of death, and the way to eternal life.

I John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the “Word,” and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the “word” of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The “Word of God” reveals things that no one else could possibly have any knowledge of.

Psalms 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

3. God Reveals Himself Through His Son

The third way in which God revealed Himself is through His Son, Jesus Christ (John 14:6-11). "In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 2:1,9)

In the gospel of John, Jesus point blank confirms that he and his Father (God) are one and the same!

John 14:8-9  Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

4. God Reveals Himself Through His Law

The purpose of the Mosaic Law was to accomplish the following:

(1) Reveal the holy character of the eternal God to the nation of Israel and to counsel them about how to attain to the same holy character.

(2) Reveal the sinfulness of mankind and his absolute need of the seed of saving Grace effected only by the perfect Son of God.

Galations 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

The Levitical Law did its job well, pointing out the sinfulness of mankind and condemning us for it. The laws of God were designed to prick the conscience of sinful man in order to force him to recognize his sinful nature, and that man could not possibly merit Gods favor on his own power.

Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD issure, making wise the simple.

5. God Reveals Himself Via his Holy Spirit.

The Bible describes the Holy Spirit as a person who has been present with the Father and the Son since before time began. The Spirit is integral to all of the things that God is described as doing in the Bible.

The Spirit of God was present at and involved in the creation. The Holy Spirit moved the prophets of God with the words of God.

The Holy Spirit is the abiding presence of God that resides within each believer to aid and assist them in their daily lives, whether it be as a comforter, a teacher, or guide.

The world is a sinful place, and one of the Holy Spirit’s main tasks is to convict the world of its sin. No amount of preaching, pleading, or pointing of fingers will bring about the conviction of sin, unless the Holy Spirit is at work in the sinner’s heart.

It is the Holy Spirit’s job to convict. And what is the most basic sin of which the world is guilty? Jesus specifies it as unbelief. The Holy Spirit is tasked with appealing to sinful man of God’s reality and to contend with his righteousness.

6. God Reveals Himself Through Prophecy

God has also revealed himself by declaring what he will do in the future: The prophet Isaiah records of God: “I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please” (Isaiah 46:9-10).

Only a being outside of earthly time could foretell of future things that would come to pass in our process of time.

Only God the Creator could possibly possess such knowledge! And only God would dare forecast something in the course of events in world history, for such detailed revelation would run the risk of exposure as a fraud.

Isaiah 42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

7. God Reveals Himself Through Fulfilled Promises

If the first six methods of how God reveals himself to mankind we’re not convincing enough to verify Gods existence, surely the fulfillment of promises made by God in his Word would be conclusive.

God promised Abraham a nation. He framed it.

God promised a Son to Abraham. He formed him.

God promised mankind a Savior. He sent his Son!

God promised to recover Israel. He has done so!

God promised to call Gentiles unto him. He is doing so!

God promised his people eternal life. He provided it!

God promised to return Jesus someday. He soon will!

When we consider all the promises God pledged unto Abraham, to the prophets, to the nation of Israel, and to those who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior; we have an abundance of Divine promises to review and research for assessing the reality of the existence of God; and the credibility of Gods Word.

Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

Rescue The Perishing

 Rescue The Perishing

There is an old gospel song entitled “Rescue the Perishing. You may remember singing it in church. But sadly, It isn’t sung anymore in our modern church worship styles, although it was once a popular revival standard. It was written by Fanny Crosby in 1869.

1-Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
weep o'er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Refrain:
Rescue the Perishing, care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save!

Those are very precious words aren’t they, especially when you pause to consider that without Jesus, we are all doomed to Perish! Thankfully, Jesus came into this world to literally rescue the perishing!

What does it mean to Perish? The word perish means to endure tremendous ruin and utter destruction or death.

I was once shopping in the vegetable section of the grocery, when I observed a sign hanging over the lettuces and tomatoes. It said “Perishable Goods.”

I thought about that sign, and quickly realized that the items on display only had a minimal shelf life and had to be purchased by a certain time, before they would be thrown out as perished items.

Those thoughts about “Perishable goods and a shelf life” made me think about life for people here in this world. We all have a sort of “shelf life” in this world. Our lives are all too short relatively speaking and then like a vapor that fadeth away, we too expire.

Significantly more important than the fact that life in this world is temporary and brief, is the fact that we are born into this world as “Perishable Creatures.”

I hate the whole idea of having a Perishing nature. Nobody wants to Perish! Surely to goodness if there is a God of Love; he has provided a stopgap measure against his creatures having to Perish! The Good News is: He has!

The most noted scriptures in Gods Word offers everyone a promise of a Rescue from Perishing!

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not PERISH, but have everlasting life.

John 10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never PERISH, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

So when I hear that old glorious gospel song, “Rescue the Perishing,” I think about how much God loves me, and sent Jesus to not only rescue me from perishing; but also to grant me the hope of Eternal Life!

Yes: Jesus is Merciful, Jesus will Save!
