The Bridge is Out!

The Bridge is Out!

It is a warning sign, when traveling down the highway, especially in the darkness of night that no one ever wants to see! “Beware, Bridge out Ahead.

But, on the other hand, when a bridge is down, we should be ever so thankful that somebody has erected a sign to warn us that the roadway ahead will abruptly end and that there will be no bridge for us to cross over on at an upcoming gorge.

I recently read a story about just such an instance in which a driver was speeding his way down the highway, unaware that the bridge ahead was out.

Unfortunately, the “bridge out ahead” warning signs had been knocked down and not restored into their proper positions to warn any oncoming drivers.

Needless to say, this driver kept speeding ahead and ran out of roadway and tumbled down into a deep ravine with a large river. He did not survive!

How sad and needless was his death! If only a warning sign had been in place; or if somebody had took the initiative to insure that the warning signs were intact.

This story reminds me of our physical journey on the “road of life,” yet while living in a cursed and fallen world.

Our individual roads in life are often marked with potholes, cracks, rough spots and sometimes even a long smooth patch. We all naturally tend to speed along, hurrying ahead to our next appointment in life.

Most of us don’t pay too much attention to the “spiritual warning signs” that are posted along our daily thoroughfares.

Yet this is exactly what the Bible is all about! It is in fact a series of “life-way signs” to inform us of valuable information about the road that we are traveling on. It informs us of many imminent dangers, curves, detours, traps, and most importantly; that at the end of this “road of life” that the Bridge is Out!

But because the Roadway of Life is mortal; God has built a new bridge to the other side of this Life! That bridge is Jesus Christ!

God has left it up to each traveler on the road of life to choose to follow his warning signs, or to ignore them.

There is only one sure way to cross the great gorge of death. To ignore it is to choose to speed on ahead to the end of your road and sail off into the abyss because you missed the Bridge Signs!

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Now, I pose the following questions:

1-If you knew that a bridge was out on a road that you were traveling on; wouldn’t you warn others about the problem that lies just ahead?

2-If you know that Jesus is the only way to cross over the gorge of death, wouldn’t you advise others to take advantage of it, so that they could avoid an “eternal tragedy?”

3-If you knew that Jesus was the only bridge on which to cross over the valley of death, and you failed to tell others about him; how do you suppose God would view that?

As Christians in these Last Days, very close to the end of Life’s roadway, and the darkness has fallen; we need to be out on the highways screaming loud and clear; as we point to the sign; Beware: “The Bridge Ahead is Out!
